Makayla 

Although originally from Downers Grove, IL, Makayla has spent the last five years in Iowa pursuing her undergraduate and master’s degrees. Makayla graduated from Cornell College with a BA in Psychological Sciences, and is currently enrolled at Mount Mercy University, completing her MD in Marriage and Family Therapy. Makayla has been interested in becoming a therapist since high school, and has been very passionate about mental health for as long as she can remember. Originally, Makayla was unsure which path to take to become a therapist, but due to her special interests, and desire to work with couples, Makayla decided MFT would be the correct path for her. 

Makayla has always seen herself as someone who wanted to help others, and provide care in the same way that she has received care. She has seen, and experienced, the magic of therapy and is an advocate for it. She believes deeply that anybody can benefit from therapy, and that growth and change are available to anybody who wants it. It is hard to change the situations we find ourselves in, so Makayla hopes to be a support during those times and guide change where the client sees fit. At the end of the day, the client is the expert on their own lives. Makayla takes a systemic approach to therapy, and aims to get as many individuals involved in sessions as possible to create everlasting change, and support for all members who are involved. Makayla has a special interest in working with couples, individuals, and those part of diverse populations.

In her free time, Makayla enjoys spending time with important people in her life, lifting, fishing, playing pool, and doing Legos. She values her hobbies, and finds a little bit of time every day to dedicate to something she enjoys. She understands that in order to help support and provide care to others, she needs to take care of herself first.
