Garret (He/Him)
“In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger – something better, pushing right back.”
-Albert Camus
Building a strong and resilient community is at the center of Garret’s education and practice of Marriage and Family Therapy. Garret believes that storytelling is important to understanding oneself and honoring past experiences that create our individual realities and identities. Using a solutions focused orientation and psychoeducation, Garret seeks to develop relationships not only to achieve healing, but to help clients build the capacity to actively resist the source of their problems to function as they desire throughout their lives. Exploring beliefs and their connection to a client’s emotional life through a non-pathologizing, strengths-based lens is how Garret seeks to commune with clients so they can develop and maintain satisfying relationships with themselves, families and communities.
Garret has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Iowa, was an Intelligence Analyst in the United States Army, and had a sales career in several industries before choosing to pursue a career that more closely aligned with his value in serving his community through Marriage and Family Therapy.
Outside of the clinic, Garret spends his time in the forest with his greyhound, exploring and foraging for wild plants and mushrooms.
