Alyssa H.      (She/Her/ Hers)

"The wound is the place where the light enters you – Rumi

Alyssa’s journey into the MFT program at Mount Mercy is a bit unconventional, with history working in healthcare for 15 years before pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Integrative Psychology in 2024. Through her educational background in addition to professional and lived experiences, Alyssa has found a love for human connection and a passion for finding meaning in life that has fueled her continuous journey in self-discovery, ultimately inspiring her pursuit of a career in Marriage and Family Therapy.

As a student therapist, Alyssa brings compassion, openness, and a genuine desire for connection and understanding. Alyssa’s therapeutic approach is collaborative and feminist, believing that we are all our own experts on ourselves, and therapy is a space to explore through collaborative dialogue and finding meaning in experiences. Alyssa strives to walk alongside clients in the ups and downs of life, as her own past experiences give her firsthand knowledge of the impact a supportive therapeutic relationship can have on the healing and growth process.

Alyssa likes to bring a mix of authenticity, humor, and curiosity to her therapeutic energy. She believes that some of the greatest change and growth can come from our deepest hardships and most difficult challenges. She finds beauty in the diverse experiences of individuals and encourages clients to show up exactly as they are in the present moment.

Outside of her time in the clinic as a student therapist, Alyssa enjoys being in nature, playing piano, connecting with friends and family, and finding adventures with her children. She also loves practicing yoga, singing (car) karaoke, thrifting, and cuddling with her tuxedo cats, Olive and Sylvester. Alyssa is a lifelong learner and strives to continuously grow and stretch her own limits.
