Mellette (she/her/hers)

Mellette is a Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native who started her educational journey with a Bachelor’s in Social Work from Mount Mercy University in 2011. Mellette worked as a social worker for many area non-profits and has found a passion in mental health work with adults and teenagers. Her desire to pursue continued education in practicing Marriage and Family Therapy stems from the lack of clinical services available to individuals who are under or not insured and have difficulty accessing quality care. As a social worker, Mellette has learned crisis intervention and de-escalation skills that are necessary for treating an array of major mental health symptoms.

Mellette hopes to mesh the worlds of social work and therapeutic intervention in the future, to provide care to individuals in unique settings such as the emergency room, outpatient free clinics, substance abuse facilities, community health centers, and more. Mellette likes to think outside of the box and welcomes her clients into this world of learning and growing alongside each other. In a way that both comforts and challenges people during their moments of pain, Mellette believes in strengths based and empowerment techniques above all else to facilitate healing.

In her free time, Mellette enjoys spending time with her spunky daughter, three pets, and cultivating friendships near and far. Mellette loves any kind of coffee, singing to no one, going for walks/exercising, thrifting, reading, writing poetry, and relaxing with a good TV show or movie as time allows.
