Marissa graduated from Iowa State University with her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a minor in Spanish in 2016. She has worked beside individuals and families involved with DHS, delinquent youth and youth sex offenders in both a school and placement setting prior to beginning her master’s program in Marriage and Family Therapy. Marissa also has experiences with trauma/sexual assault, career counseling for college students, and with elders facing end of life as well as having conditions such as Dementia or Alzheimer’s.
Marissa strives to offer a therapeutic environment that is inclusive, safe, and nonjudgmental. Her therapeutic approach incorporates a safe space for processing the most intimate thoughts and feelings, acceptance, and hope. One of Marissa’s goals in therapy is to offer insight and/or a new perspective in order to help others live their best lives.
In her free time, Marissa likes to spend time outdoors hiking, walking the dogs, or tending the chickens and garden. Marissa enjoys hanging out with her family and close friends, cooking, fishing, building things, and cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones in football and basketball.
“Sometimes, you have to let go of the picture of what you thought life would be like, and learn to find joy in the story you are actually living.” – Rachel Marie Martin
